In collaboration with Protec Fuel Pumps, we are very excited to announce the EQT Tsunami Integrated Surge Tank System – a revolutionary modular surge suppression fuel pump system. This system solves critical issues with the factory style fuel pump assembly, while providing a modular solution that can be scaled to support as much as 1400whp, all tucked away inside the fuel tank!

    The Problem:

Most factory fuel tanks and fuel pump setups suffer from fuel starvation due to slosh. Slosh occurs when a car experiences high G forces from hard acceleration or aggressive cornering. This becomes more pronounced with increased power and grip levels. Under these conditions fuel is pushed away from the in-tank fuel pump assembly, the fuel pump ingests air and sends that to the engine instead of fuel. This results in a sudden, extremely lean condition which can cause hard power cuts, misfires, fuel pump wear, and engine damage.

Volkswagen/Audi are no exception to this as some models can suffer from severe fuel starvation at as much as half tank. To combat fuel slosh and starvation, drivers are often required to have at least a half full tank if they want to drive their cars aggressively. This is not ideal for things like track driving and drag racing where fuel range and overall weight are important factors.

A common solution for this problem has been the addition of an auxiliary surge tank. This usually involves an intrusive tank assembly to be installed somewhere in the trunk area with fuel lines running from the in-tank pump to the surge tank, and then to the engine. This system works by holding a set amount of fuel in the auxiliary surge tank which is fed by the normal in-tank pump. When slosh occurs, the in-tank pump briefly runs dry and sends air to the surge tank. However, t
he surge tank still has plenty of fuel that it can supply to the engine until the slosh condition subsides and the in-tank pump is again able to replenish the surge tank.

While this solution works, it is usually reserved for full track/race cars because the surge tank and associated lines and components take up interior space and may present safety concerns for road vehicles. This type of surge tank solution can also get very expensive as it requires its own fuel pump, additional wiring/controllers to control the pump, external fuel pressure regulators, and a lot of additional fuel lines.

    The Solution:

Instead of adding an auxiliary system, the EQT Tsunami utilizes a completely new fuel pump assembly that fits entirely into the factory fuel tank. The new assembly includes a state-of-the-art 3D printed basket, choice of Protec Brushless Fuel Pumps, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, appropriate top hat, and all necessary lines, wiring, and controller(s) for a truly plug and play solution that doesn’t take up trunk space.

    Kit Contents

    • Drop-In Modular Basket with single Brushless Fuel Pump
    • OEM Fuel Pump Controller
    • Plug and Play Wiring Harness
    • Installation Hardware Specific to Region

    Basket Design

The new 3D printed basket is designed to fit into factory fuel tank while holding 5 times more fuel than the factory basket. This helps to keep enough fuel supply to the pump even under prolonged high G conditions.

    Anti-drainback valve

The new basket also features a built in low mounted ball valve to ensure that fuel is always entering the tank in normal driving, but when fuel slosh occurs, the valve closes to prevent the fuel in the basket from draining out.

    AWD Siphon Provision

In AWD/saddle tank cars, the siphon pump has been re-designed to return fuel to the top of the basket. This ensures fuel from the saddle side is always going directly into the basket.

    Protec Brushless Pump

The Protec brushless fuel pump included in this kit can supply enough fuel for over 700whp on E85. This has been tested and proven with our shop MK7 Golf R making over 700whp using our Typhoon bolt-on turbo. We have run full drag passes in this car with less than 2 gallons of fuel in the tank and perfectly stable fuel pressure.

    Fully modular design

This system can grow with your needs. The standard system is good for just over 700whp. If you find that you need more flow in the future, the system can be expanded to run dual pumps for up to 1400whp on E85. Various filter and regulator options will also be available in the future. No longer will you need to replace the entire system as your power requirements grow – this is really the last fuel pump system you’ll need to buy.

The result is the ultimate solution to keep fuel pumping to your engine and to protect against slosh/starvation. Whether you're a hardcore drag racer or a road coarse king, this system will always ensure trouble free and smooth operation in the most extreme conditions.
